It's unique two-piece design allows for replacement of the valve stem independently of the sensor. The Sensors are also available in a convenient kit that includes the MULTi-FIT TPMS Programmer, which is necessary for programming the sensor.
I purchase four of these 974-301s to replace the OEM units on my vehicle which were still working. My local Discount Tire was kind enough to install them at no charge along with the tires I had purchased from Tire Rack for which they did of course charge me for installation. Once installed they were not able to program the sensors with their TPMS tool which is contrary to what the AMAZON page says for this model 974-301 which is, "Dorman sensors work with all existing TPMS tools".

After calling Dorman, I found out that not only do you need their special programming tool to program these "Universal units", they have to be inserted into their programmer to be programmed. I now have to have the tires and sensors removed from the wheels, buy a programmer, program the sensors, have the sensors and tires reinstalled and then balanced.
The page for this product needs a big warning in red letters explaining this to avoid very costly mistakes being made by Amazon customers!!!
